When Lies Masquerade as News: Condemning Misinformation in Tragedy

In times of grief and tragedy, truth should be sacred. Yet we are witnessing a disturbing trend: the reckless spread of misinformation. The case of Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, accused of murdering his wife and daughters in Bedford, UK, has been hijacked by false narratives. Sensational posts have claimed DNA revelations that courts have never confirmed. These fabrications are not only baseless — they are cruel.

Why do people peddle such lies?  
- Clicks and clout: Outrage fuels engagement, and engagement translates into followers and profit.  
- Manipulation: By twisting facts, misinformation merchants pose as “insiders,” exploiting grief for attention.  
- Distraction: Instead of focusing on justice and the victims, the public is baited into chasing phantom stories than foolishness — it is a moral failing. Families already shattered by tragedy deserve dignity, not distortion. Communities deserve clarity, not confusion. And readers deserve truth, not toxic lies dressed as headlines.

At Les GoneX Times, we stand firmly against this culture of deception. We call on our readers to resist the lure of sensationalism, to demand verified facts, and to treat every unconfirmed “twist” with skepticism. Misinformation is not harmless entertainment.
