Girl Missing For 13 Years Found Alive In Mozambique After Social Media Appeal

By The Great GoneX

After 13 years of heartbreak, uncertainty and desperate hope, a Mutare mother has reportedly been reunited with her long-missing daughter, who was found alive in Mozambique after a social media appeal helped trace her family.

Tariro Mahumba disappeared in 2013 when she was just five years old. She reportedly vanished from a crèche in Sakubva's OTS section in Mutare, leaving her family without answers for more than a decade.

Now 18 years old, Tariro recently resurfaced in Madeira, Mozambique, where she reportedly revealed that she had been kidnapped from Zimbabwe and subjected to years of abuse.

The breakthrough reportedly came after Tariro posted a message on social media appealing for help to locate her biological family. Her appeal spread widely online, eventually triggering a search that led to her mother, Georgina Muchekadzose of Fairview, Mutare.

Mrs Muchekadzose said she received an emotional phone call on Tuesday night informing her that a young woman claiming to be her daughter had been found in Mozambique.

She immediately began making inquiries and contacted people who had reportedly been caring for Tariro. According to the information she received, the teenager had escaped from the home where she had allegedly been held.

However, the long-awaited reunion is not yet complete.

Mozambican authorities have reportedly advised that formal procedures must first be followed before Tariro can return to Zimbabwe. Mrs Muchekadzose may also need to travel through Chipinge to collect her daughter in Espungabera, Mozambique.

The grieving mother, however, faces another painful obstacle: she says she currently does not have enough money to make the journey and bring her daughter home.

Despite the logistical and financial challenges still standing in their way, the discovery has brought renewed hope to the family.

For a mother who spent 13 years not knowing whether her child was dead or alive, the news that Tariro has reportedly been found alive is nothing short of a miracle.

The story of Tariro Mahumba is a heartbreaking reminder of the pain endured by families of missing children — and of the extraordinary power social media can sometimes have in reconnecting families separated by years of uncertainty.

The circumstances surrounding Tariro's disappearance and reported time in Mozambique may require further official verification as authorities handle the case.
